We have had the wonderful opportunity, here at Poise Makeup Professional, to have worked closely with Elizabeth Fox these last few months! Elizabeth has recently joined the Local 706 Makeup Artists & Hair Guild, has joined us at the Long Beach Esthetics Show, and taught a class at the 2018 IMATS Vancouver show! After having the chance to hear Elizabeth's journey, we wanted to share it with all of you!
Poise Makeup : "How did you get in to the makeup industry"
Elizabeth : "My background is in Theater Arts. I was an actor and producer, and I absolutely loved seeing how makeup could transform a character. Makeup was such an artistic and creative discipline, I knew it was the right path for me. So, I moved from San Francisco to New York to be a makeup artist. I took classes and workshops and assisted anyone I could. I started in film right away, doing a lot of shorts and indies. I also stumbled into some reality TV, which was a great training ground for speeding up my applications. I moved to LA when I discovered Special FX and continued to assist as much as I could. I was so lucky to work with some excellent FX Artists both on set and in the lab during that time. I moved back to the Bay Area when I was pregnant with my daughter and I’ve been here ever since. It was tough taking time off for parenting and re- establishing myself in the local community but I now have a great career, surrounded by some wonderful artists. It really is about your community. I wouldn’t be where I am now without the support of other Makeup Artists and crew."
Poise Makeup : "Was there a moment where you knew you wanted to begin working in the TV & Film Industry?"
Elizabeth : "I assumed I would be working in Theater. But I met with a top Makeup Artist on Broadway and she advised me to pursue TV & Film because of the quantity of productions and the ability to make a better living. It was when I was sitting at Danny DeVito’s kitchen table, discussing a horror project that he hired me to do the makeup for, that I realized I absolutely made the right choice!"
Poise Makeup : "What is your favorite Poise Makeup Professional product and why? How do you like to use it?"
Elizabeth: Just one? It has to be the HD Creme Foundations and HD Creme Color Correctors. I use the heck out of them, they are the most used products in my kit. I can match anyones skin tone with them and can adjust them for any skin type. I’m a mixer, I love to create my own colors and the HD Cream Foundations and Color Correctors give me the confidence to do whatever I want.
Poise Makeup : "What is a piece of advice for someone who is interested in the industry?"
Elizabeth : Assist. There is no better classroom. And assist multiple artists to see the ways others work and use products.
Poise Makeup : "What experience, as a makeup artist, has left a big impact on you and why?"
Elizabeth : Assisting and being a part of a makeup team. I take something away from everyone I work with. I learn so much from watching others work. I could tell you things I learned from assisting people 15 years ago and I just learned something from my department head on a Netflix film last month.
Poise Makeup : "What kind of makeup is your favorite to do and why?"
Elizabeth : I still love a great gore makeup but these days, it’s simple color correction. Color is so fascinating and combines technicality with creativity. A beautiful tattoo coverage gives me incredible joy.
